It’s looks like we’ll be launching a series of North Coast campuses in Colorado Springs soon.
They will most likely be made up of smaller ministries and “house churches” using our sermons and sermon-based small group model. We’ve had a significant number of North Coasters move there recently and the Lord has raised up some leaders who want to make it happen and want to reach out to their new community and new friends.
After years of a laissez faire approach to our distant campuses – think Kailua, Oahu, Cabo, overseas, and at one point over 48 spread across the country – we are planning to take a more proactive approach to helping those who want to launch a North Coast ministry or campus in their own town. In the past, we’ve treated our near-by campuses as an extension of the Vista campus and have seen them grow quite large. Carlsbad is over 1,000. Fallbrook is one on the largest churches in its town and area. And of course the Vista campus is a small city. But we’ve done little to facilitate or resource those that are beyond our North San Diego County region. In fact, we’ve never even counted them in our attendance figures.
It will be interesting to see where this takes us. I am a fan of healthy small churches and house churches. I would also expect that some of them would grow into more traditional church plants. Stay tuned. It will be fun to see where God takes this.
